Spring Break 2 - Fukui

Well Part 2 of my Spring Break. I went to Fukui 福井市 to visit my friend. Upon arriving we decided to goto Eheiji 永平寺, which is a training temple for Zen Priests, of the Soto school. Also if you look closely at the picture you will see something I have not seen in months. . . SNOW!!!!!! This temple was amazingly Beautiful, statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas everywhere, dressed with large amounts of snow, and in some parts there was about 5 feet of snow!

So after, Toshi and myself went to the old part of Fukui, that is Echizen 越前 and Ota 織田. Ota is the birthplace of Oda Nobunaga 織田信長, so I got to see a historical landmark, which was exciting too seeing I spent Fall 2005 writing an extensive report on Oda Nobunaga's life. Toshi also took me to his village (and when I say village I mean a town of about 15 houses.) I got to see old style houses, also got the chance to enter a Japanese house for the first time. It was......cold, because of the lack of central heating.

So I went to sleep and woke up Early the next morning to leave for Osaka 大阪 and we decided to goto Osaka Castle 大阪城. I went with Troy and my friend Youhei, we all decided after going in the museam, that the best part of the castle was the outside. The castle was just boring, the only good thing was i got a cool coin with myname made :)

That was part 2 of my 3 part Spring Break Blog entry, next part will be my trip to Ise!
